The Disastrous Launch of Spider-Man 2 PC Port - A Broken Experience

{{BLOG_TITLE image}}

Introduction: Spider-Man 2, originally a PlayStation exclusive, has been highly anticipated by PC gamers. However, its PC port has been nothing short of disastrous. Despite an official patch claiming to fix the numerous issues, it seems that the game remains riddled with bugs, crashes, and graphical glitches. Below is an overview of the issues, my experience, and the general state of the game on PC.

The Game Crashes Within Minutes: The Spider-Man 2 PC port has been a complete mess since launch. After installing the patch, I was hopeful, but the game crashed again within five minutes. A black screen appears when webbing enemies, which is a known bug that hasn’t been fixed. This is just one of the many issues that make the game feel unfinished. On release, the crashing was so severe it even caused my PC to completely restart – something I’ve never experienced before.

Refund Issues and Mixed Reviews: To add to my frustration, I tried to get a refund on Steam, but they just rejected it. Now, 50 pounds down the drain, I'm stuck with this broken mess. The game’s lack of marketing and absence of pre-orders before release raise suspicions. Looking online, I found many others facing similar problems. The game’s graphical glitches make it look like a PS2-era title, with textures that are downright terrible.

Bizarre Glitches and Bugs: Some of the bugs reported by other players are wild. In one video, the character falls through the map, and in another, characters are stuck inside buildings. In some missions, players can’t even take pictures, and the cutscenes are glitchy. One user reported their character being frozen in place while swinging through the city, which is a major gameplay issue. Some players even experienced multiple Agent Venoms appearing on-screen—imagine fighting with two identical characters!

Performance and Memory Issues: Another major issue is the game’s excessive use of system resources. Despite having 32 GB of RAM, the game consumes all of it for no apparent reason. This is a performance nightmare, and I’m left wondering why the developers thought it was necessary to punish users with such inefficient resource management.

PC Reviews and Community Feedback: Reviews on Steam are currently mixed, and it’s clear why: the game crashes frequently, even on high-end PCs with an RTX 4090 GPU. Gamers are frustrated, as I am, because despite having a top-tier graphics card and the latest Nvidia drivers, the game still crashes due to graphical errors. One interesting observation is that those with AMD GPUs seem to experience fewer crashes. However, this isn't a universal fix, and even AMD users report bugs.

Conclusion: A Patch Won't Save This Game: Despite trying various fixes, including rolling back to previous Nvidia drivers, the game’s stability has not improved. Whether I turn off ray tracing or adjust the settings, the crashes persist. This isn’t a matter of personal setup; it’s a major flaw in the PC port itself. The game, which I was excited to play, has been an absolute disaster, and it’s clear that we will need another patch to address these issues.

Final Thoughts: As much as I love Spider-Man 2, this PC port has been a huge disappointment. The game has potential, but right now, it’s unplayable for many. I encourage others to share their experiences in the comments and let me know what GPU you’re using and whether you've had similar issues. Don’t forget to like and subscribe for updates.
