The Five Nights at Freddy's franchise now boasts a total of 12 different FNAF games, featuring hundreds of unique and memorable animatronics. Some of the most iconic animatronics originate from the earliest points in the timeline, such as Fredbear and Spring Bonnie. However, with new additions to the franchise, such as FNAF: Secret of the Mimic and updates to FNAF 1 and FNAF 2, our understanding of the earliest part of the timeline has shifted—along with the animatronics that were present.
While we have been introduced to new animatronics from this era, this theory will explore the possibility that some previously overlooked animatronics from past games actually belonged to the earliest point in the timeline. In particular, we will examine how Help Wanted 2 may have provided clues about the forgotten origins of the Rockstar Animatronics.
The Rockstar Animatronics are a set of revamped animatronic models featured in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator (FNAF 6). They were purchasable items from the "Smiles and Servos Inc." catalog—a company that will be revisited later in this discussion. Unlike the other Rockstars, Lefty was found in the refined section of the catalog.
These animatronics later appeared in Ultimate Custom Night and Help Wanted 2, playing minor roles. Initially, they seemed like simple background characters, existing purely for gameplay mechanics rather than any deeper lore significance. However, new revelations from Help Wanted 1 and Help Wanted 2 suggest that the Rockstar Animatronics may have been crucial to the earliest point in the timeline—possibly even preceding the original animatronics.
The Rockstar Animatronics bear a striking resemblance to a newly introduced animatronic in Help Wanted 2—Carney. Carney plays a role as both the announcer and antagonist in the Fazer Blast levels. This animatronic, a rusted brown bear with yellow eyes, a blue top hat, and a green-and-white striped vest, closely resembles Rockstar Freddy and Lefty.
Significantly, Help Wanted 2 introduces the idea of Fall Fest, a carnival setting in the FNAF universe. Posters in the game reference Fall Fest 1970, indicating that this event predates any Fazbear pizzeria. The carnival setting was first introduced in Help Wanted: Dreadbear, which featured Fall Fest 1983. Given this timeline, it appears that the Fazer Blast and carousel mini-games take place in Fall Fest 1970, meaning Carney belongs to this time period as well.
If Carney is part of Fall Fest, could the Rockstar Animatronics also be connected to this event?
Looking at the Rockstar Animatronics' designs, they bear similarities to the withered animatronics from FNAF 2, with their detached jaws and signature color palettes. However, if Carney was an attraction at Fall Fest, it raises the possibility that the other Rockstar Animatronics were also part of this carnival.
Each animatronic may have had a booth or attraction associated with them at the festival:
This suggests that the Rockstar Animatronics were originally known as the Carnival Rockstar Animatronics, characters designed for entertainment at Fall Fest 1970 before being forgotten in the franchise’s timeline.
One recurring theme in FNAF lore is fire—a key event that often erases history. Notably, every mini-game connected to Fall Fest ends in a fire. A version of Carney, or Rockstar Freddy, is seen completely burned, suggesting that a catastrophic fire engulfed Fall Fest.
This raises several questions:
While these mysteries remain unresolved, it’s possible that the fire was responsible for destroying the Rockstar Animatronics and erasing their existence from Fazbear history—until years later, when they were revived in FNAF 6.
The Smiles and Servos Inc. catalog in FNAF 6 was responsible for selling the Rockstar Animatronics, but could this company have also played a role in their original creation? If Smiles and Servos existed in the 1970s, they might have been the ones to manufacture and sell the Carnival Rockstar Animatronics to Fall Fest.
This company has not been mentioned elsewhere in the franchise, making their connection to Fazbear Entertainment unclear. However, there is speculation that they could reappear in FNAF: Secret of the Mimic, where Fall Fest is expected to play a major role. If this happens, we may finally receive confirmation about the Rockstar Animatronics’ origins.
The upcoming FNAF: Secret of the Mimic is set in a factory filled with empty mascot suits. Given the presence of old animatronic remnants, it wouldn’t be surprising to find the Rockstar Animatronics—or at least references to them—scattered throughout the environment.
While they may not serve as main antagonists, small details in the game could confirm their history as carnival attractions from Fall Fest 1970, reinforcing this theory.
Based on Carney’s resemblance to the Rockstar Animatronics and the introduction of Fall Fest 1970, we can speculate that the Rockstars were originally carnival animatronics, attending different booths at Fall Fest before being lost in a fire. Years later, Smiles and Servos Inc. revived them for FNAF 6.
However, this remains just a theory—one that adds new depth to the lore but is not yet confirmed. If you have different thoughts, feel free to share your own theories.
What do you think? Could the Rockstar Animatronics have been the Carnival Rockstar Animatronics? Did they have a role in Fall Fest 1970? Let’s discuss!
